Movement Meditation: You are not wrong

For two hours, Raven will guide participants through a series of meditations and movement possibilities with the intent to offer permission and encouragement for each person to arrive as themselves and move as they are. One of the foundations of Raven's classes is the idea that in this moment, you are not wrong. There is no wrong way to feel, no wrong way to move, and no wrong way to be. Raven encourages her students and collaborators to invest in the exploration of the moment without pushing for anybody to abandon judgement. In fact, Raven prefers to think of judgement -- including self-judgement -- to be something that naturally occurs. She has found that there is power in accepting all of what we think and feel, so that we can move sustainably through the world.

Raven Midnight White is a visual and performing artist, a queer woman, an activist, a  southerner, and an ocean-lover. Her practice is that of improvisation, acceptance, the unknowing of herself and her surroundings, and the seeing of what happens. She creates performance collaboratively with artists to make each person the core of the work as themselves. She also creates larger than life paintings, drawings, and sculptures, incorporating her ideas of acceptance and wonder into every aspect of her work.

Raven was introduced to improvisation at Princeton University under the tutelage of Aynsley Vandenbroucke. Aynsley helped Raven discover that improvisation is one of the rare dance forms in which a lost person is celebrated and a queer body is welcomed. Improvisation soon became the foundation of all Raven’s creations – and her life, really. She finds that learning to move with freedom, with ourselves as we are, is world changing. Thus Raven is devoted to bringing these possibilities to anyone who wishes to listen.
