Physical Listening is a movement-based practice that helps you become more aware, more responsive, and more creative in real time.
It’s about using your body and your senses to make decisions—not just your head.
In this movement workshop, you will:
Practice improvisation as a way to create choreography
Build strong nonverbal communication skills
Learn how to navigate tension through movement
Practice leading and following in ensemble
You’ll move through guided exercises, experiment with different improvisation structures, and create short solos, duets, and group pieces.
This isn’t just for dancers—people from all kinds of fields use this practice—this workshop is built to push your awareness and confidence to communicate through movement.
What to bring: water, comfy clothes you can move in, and a journal (optional)
Invitation to Open Rehearsal: Connecting with Live Horses
All participants are invited to observe an open rehearsal with live horses on May 16/17 following the workshop. For over 25 years, JoAnna has created original performance works with dancers performing alongside horses. More details will be provided at the Physical Listening Lab.
